Biostatistics
The Biostatistics Department operates under the Medical Director, and the Medical Records unit under the Biostatistics Department is responsible for the collection and management of health records by traditional and electronic means in the hospital.
The Unit plays a critical role in the delivery of healthcare in the hospital and is the first point of call for all patients who come to the hospital.
The core mandate as a Department is outlined in these five broad areas namely:
- To register patients into the hospital system
- To issue cards and folders to patients in the hospital
- To keep patients’ records in the hospital
- To compile and analyze both clinical and administrative data in the hospital
- To undertake some research activities.
- Facilitate health and clinical research in healthcare quality
- Improve healthcare quality by reducing medical errors, and health disparities, and by advancing the delivery of patient-centred medical care
- Improve public health activities, and facilitate early identification and rapid response to public health threats
- Reduce healthcare costs resulting from inefficiency, medical errors, inappropriate care, duplicative care, and incomplete information
- Improve the coordination of care and information among hospitals, laboratories, physician offices, and other entities for the secure and authorized exchange of healthcare information
- Promote early detection, prevention, and management of chronic diseases.
Head of Biostatistics Department
Theophilus George Gyepi-Garbrah is registered with Allied Health Professions Council as a Health Information Officer with over seven years of experience working with various sectors of Ghana’s health sector.
He currently heads the Biostatistics Department of St. John of God Hospital, Duayaw Nkwanta.
He graduated from Catholic University College of Ghana, Fiapre with a BSc in Public Health Informatics.
Theophilus George also holds an MSc in Health Informatics from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. In addition to his qualification, he holds a certificate as a Certified Data Protection Supervisor from the Data Commission of Ghana.
His interests are surfing the net, reading E-books, and swimming.
